This is a turn based strategy game that I worked on in College. I wanted to update the graphics/UI since I have grown and honed my skills.
Above to the left are skill icons for the playable characters: Mage, Knight, and Archer. Each character has a base atk, 2 skills, and an ultimate move. We use the sprite swap feature in Unity for buttons so that is why there is 3 variations. (Default, Highlighted, Pressed).
To the right, we have universal icons which are shared between all playable characters. There are also phase icons and key HUD elements here as well. I wanted to create a dark fantasy feel to the game which is why the designer and I worked on utilizing the darker purple and black color schemes.
Loading screen features a Larva crawling around... Creepy huh? This game has lots of bug themed enemies so we leaned into that when making these menus. Hints can be displayed while waiting. Players can choose to read it if they want.
Process
Skills icons were initially drafted by sketching. Then I move into Illustrator and Photoshop to make the final versions. I often like to iterate in Illustrator as they things may change in the design process. (The image above is a compilation of the drafts to save space).
Here I used Figma to map out roughly where things could be displayed. This was a crucial step as it helps get a rough idea of how the game can look and function.
