I've always wanted to make an arcade style game and what better than a variation on Whack a Mole? Smack all the creatures to get as many points as possible and avoid hitting the Bomb Moles as they will make you lose points or lose health depending on the game mode.
I made the UI Assets as well as the VFX/3D Models! This was a fun project to work on and I may expand on this more in the future!
Tools Used: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Unity, Blender, and Figma.
Video showcases what the 3D Scene is like, fun to see the Moles pop in and out. Unintentionally it shows what the gameplay could be like. Also for the main menus, I like to include icons onto the buttons because it is a great accessibility option. If people recognize icons, they wont necessarily have to read.
I enjoy using toggles in the settings as it is a quick interaction! Indicators are also helpful as they showcase which option is active.
Below, this is the survival mode where Bomb Moles will appear more often and hitting them will take a heart away. Once all hearts are gone, its game over...
Making 3D Model's for this project was incredibly fun as well! Here is a few of the key assets! For the mole's design, I wanted to give them lots of character so I gave them thick eyebrows and sharp curvy whiskers. I utilized the Mirror modifier as it helped streamline and speed up the modeling.
Here are some wireframes/blockouts for this project. Blocking out the basics helps with figuring out how to optimize the information displayed on screen. Making one for the leaderboard style menus is always helpful as they require lots of information. Figma was used for this process.
I always like to think ahead and see where majority of the gameplay is before committing to a space for the HUD elements. This helps with decreasing clutter and keeping the player immersed.
